Plant Technician

The Plant Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of all engineering systems at Corinthia Palace, Malta. In the absence of the Director of Engineering or the Assistant Maintenance Manager, the Plant Technician will deputise and maintain the continuity of all essential services. The role includes carrying out general repair and maintenance tasks as instructed.
Key responsibilities
System operations & maintenance

Oversee the daily functioning of critical systems, including HVAC, potable water purification, effluent treatment, boilers, chillers and swimming pool filtration

Maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems in line with operational standards
Preventive & statutory maintenance
- Implement and monitor the Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) programme
- Ensure all statutory inspections are completed and documentation is accurately filed
Facility management
- Manage the Building Management System (BMS) and maintain comprehensive asset logs
- Support the procurement of parts and equipment as required
Operational support & communication
- Assist with hotel operations where needed
- Communicate effectively with the engineering team and keep management informed of issues or developments
Efficiency & cost control
- Monitor utility usage, minimise wastage, and contribute to departmental cost-efficiency
Innovation & standards
- Remain up to date with industry developments and integrate improvements where appropriate
- Maintain Corinthia’s standards and uphold the brand’s service philosophy
Team support & leadership
- Provide support during Duty Maintenance shifts
- Assume full operational responsibility in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director of Engineering
Compliance & conduct
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and internal company policies
- Maintain a discreet, professional presence at all times, particularly in guest areas
Experience & background
- Previous experience in hotels or commercial properties with complex engineering systems (e.g., HVAC, water treatment, boilers)
- HND/HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or at least five years of proven technical experience in a similar field
Skills & knowledge
- Strong technical skills and attention to detail
- Working knowledge of statutory maintenance requirements and safety regulations
- Proficient in using computers and technical applications
- Capable of resolving problems efficiently and working under pressure
The ideal candidate
- Wireman’s Licence (considered an asset)
- Experience in refrigeration systems (considered an asset)
- Flexible and adaptable
- Professional in conduct with strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Effective both independently and as part of a team
