Junior Sommelier

We are seeking a passionate Junior Sommelier to enhance our guests' dining experience by expertly showcasing our wine selection. This role extends beyond recommending wines - it involves curating and managing the wine programme to complement our cuisine and meet guest preferences. The ideal candidate will assist with wine service, oversee inventory and support staff training, ensuring a seamless and sophisticated experience. By contributing to the success of our beverage programme, you will play a key role in creating memorable moments for our guests.

Key responsibilities 

• Bring the beverage menu to life by offering engaging, vivid descriptions of each item’s origin, taste and preparation
• Ensure seamless order execution by accurately communicating guest requests, including special preferences, through the hotel’s point-of-sale system
• Deliver exceptional service by promptly transporting beverages to guests' tables with care and efficiency
• Anticipate guest needs and enhance their experience by providing thoughtful recommendations, ensuring satisfaction and addressing concerns professionally
• Properly and accurately close guest checks; process cash and credit card payments; properly settle voided checks or complimentary items
• Maintain an inviting atmosphere by setting up, cleaning and breaking down tables and drink stations with attention to detail
• Foster a collaborative environment by working harmoniously and professionally with colleagues and supervisors

Health & safety

• Ensure awareness of and compliance with safe working practices as outlined in the Health & Safety Act and applicable workplace regulations. This includes understanding any specific hazards present in the work environment
• Wearing appropriate protective clothing, as provided or recommended by the Company, is mandatory
• Report any defects in the building, plant, or equipment in accordance with hotel procedures
• Immediately report any accidents involving staff, guests or visitors, following the correct procedures
• Attend mandatory Fire, health and safety training and maintain full knowledge of and adherence to all related rules and protocols

Skills & knowledge

• Fluent in written and spoken English (any other language is a plus)
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, fostering a positive and professional team environment
• Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities, ensuring smooth restaurant operations
• Refined sense of hospitality and service excellence, with a customer-centric approach
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment without compromising quality
• Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring consistency in service and guest satisfaction
• Proactive and results-driven, focused on optimising operations and enhancing the dining experience

Requirements

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays, as required
• Proven experience  in a similar role within the hospitality industry
• In-depth knowledge of national and international wines, including production techniques, regions, and classifications
• Experience managing inventory and budgeting 
• Ability to provide consultative sales and deliver memorable guest experiences
• Experience hosting wine-related events or educational workshops
• Relevant certifications (e.g., WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent) are preferred
