Health & Safety week at the Corinthia Hotel St. George's Bay
07 November 2011
The Corinthia Hotel St George’s Bay, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, hosted a Health and Safety Week for all team members from Corinthia Group’s three hotels in Malta, between the 24th and the 28th October, with the aim of educating team members in various aspects of health and safety, both at their workplace and in their homes.
The event highlighted the importance the hotel gives to its preventive approach to the health and well-being aspect of its team members. This is achieved by advising them on how to best take care of themselves and ensuring their health and safety at all times, as also through the creation of a safe environment and risk assessment procedures.
Activities throughout the week included a variety of talks that dealt with various aspects of health and safety, both at the place of work, as well as on a personal level. Topics ranged from occupational health, food safety tips, balanced nutrition and breast cancer awareness, to fire prevention techniques and pest control.
The Hotel also made arrangements for the mobile blood donation unit to call at the hotel during the week, encouraging team members to contribute to the health of the community in general.
In his address to staff, hotel general manager Mr Stuart Chappell said: “Team members are the most important asset any hotel or institution possesses and we therefore have the responsibility to look after everyone’s health and safety. We can have the most beautiful hotel in the world, but it is our team members, with their welcoming smiles, positive attitudes and dedicated service that really distinguishes our Corinthia hotels. This week’s activities are a dedicated effort on our part to show team members we really care by ensuring that they learn how to take better care of themselves. The enthusiastic participation by everyone clearly indicates we will succeed in our goal and this will encourage us to hold similar activities in the future for the benefit of all our team members and our guests.”
The week came to a close with the launch of a weight management and aerobics programme that will unfold over the coming months, thus ensuring the long-lasting benefits of this Health and Safety week. A follow up event is scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
The Corinthia Hotel is located at the mouth of picturesque St George’s Bay, located within its own landscaped gardens and private beach front, yet just minutes from the prime entertainment areas in Malta. All 250 rooms and suites have uninterrupted sea views. The hotel boasts extensive conference and leisure facilities, including the Apollo Day Spa. A prominent feature is its large and attractive cascading pool complex, flowing all the way down from the restaurant level to the hotel’s own lido, offering a wide range of water sports and specialty restaurants right at the water’s edge.
